Benefits of Giving and Receiving

“Here’s Something To Feel Good About Today!”

“Pure love is a willingness to give without a thought of receiving anything in return.” Peace Pilgrim

Give someone a gift today for no particular reason!

There’s no need to wait for a special occasion or event, give without expectation, simply because it might bring someone joy or benefit. Your act of kindness may surprise them, but what comes back to you, may surprise you even more.

About six months ago I serendipitously met and became instant friends with a beautiful woman named Rebecca. Three months into our new friendship she invited me to an event to witness firsthand how a particular seminar series had transformed her life for the better. I listened for a few hours as Rebecca and many others shared their experiences of how this program had enhanced their lives.

At the end, Rebecca turned to me and asked” Is this something you would be interested in participating in?”

“Of course” I said, “but the fee is more than I can afford at this time.”

“Please let me give you the gift of this seminar.” she said.

At first I flatly refused. It was a large sum of money and I felt I did not know her long enough to accept such a generous gift. Mostly, I also didn’t want to feel obligated to her. I told her all the logical reasons why I could not accept, until she changed my mind with her heartfelt words.
“Marlene please accept my gift because it brings me great joy to give it to you. I expect nothing in return. I am giving to you simply because it makes me happy to do something of benefit for you.”

Next thing I knew through tears of gratitude, I held the signed seminar registration form marked PAID IN FULL in my hand.

I will never forget Rebecca’s generosity because she taught me to receive in the same way she had given, with an open and willing heart. The seminar has changed my life and I am on a new path as a result. My sense of obligation has turned to sincere gratitude. I feel blessed to have such a generous friend who taught me what it means to graciously receive.

Share with me how giving or receiving an unexpected gift has impacted your life.
