Eliminate Clutter this Holiday Season by Making Room for Giving!
The holidays are a perfect time to give back to the community, especially for those who are less fortunate or may be dealing with severe financial hardships. As the holiday season approaches, we should reflect over the past year of our lives because no matter how hard it may seem, there is always someone out there who has it a lot harder. While you’re cleaning out your clutter and getting ready to entertain (or party) for the holidays, why not take some of those gently used items to your local homeless shelter, or any community shelter for those who may need it the most. A lot of people are quick to donate items to their local thrift stores where they resell the merchandise. A lot of thrift stores are affiliated with shelters and local non-profits which is also another way to give back. I always like to take my donations straight to the local shelters so that the people that need it get access to it quickly. Besides, thrift stores charge money for their items and act as a middle man for the needy. Instead, why not donate directly to those you know will not be charged for items that they can barely afford. This holiday season, instead of buying a heap of new hair, body and skin products to add to your large arsenal of goodies, why not clean out your stash and give away those products that you don’t use or have never used to those who may really need it? Try locating your local shelters and take over your gently used products, clothing, coats or any type of outerwear. Or, why not hold a coat drive at your place of employment, collect and drop of the coats at your local shelter. Many shelters are in need of volunteers during the holiday season as well. Why not volunteer at a soup kitchen or shelter and help feed those who may not have a warm home to enjoy the laughter of family and friends during the holiday season. You can locate a list of shelters who are in need of donations and/or volunteers in your area at www.shelterlistings.org.
